Description
This is a simple little device that lets you shut down the Raspberry Pi before unplugging it, to avoid corrupting the SD card. There is also an LED on the board, which can be programmed to turn on as needed. Of course, the button can also be programmed to do anything you need.
This is a general purpose board that you can use for any application where you need a button or an LED. Its use is not tied to Gimx.
It was made in the spirit of this forum post: http://gimx.fr/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1617 . In the context of running GIMX on the RPi, it’s super useful in letting you power down the RPi, and also for letting you know when the emulator is up and running.
Hooking it up is relatively easy. Follow the product image showing the board hooked up to the Raspberry Pi. If using the script from this link http://gimx.fr/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1617, count off 5 pins from the top left corner of the GPIO pins, and plug the left switch lead into the 6th pin (Pin 12, GPIO 18), the middle ground lead into the 7th pin (Pin 14, Ground), and the right LED lead into the 8th pin (Pin 14, GPIO 23).
NOTE: you do NOT need to buy this separately is you’ve bought the plug n play Raspberry Pi package. The PnP package already includes this button and LED.
